The
system operates on full screen PCs in strategic
positions on the shop floor. Users interact with
the system through the PC keyboard, selecting from
choices that appear in drop down list boxes on
the screen. Bar code readers (attached to keyboards)
may also be deployed within the system for scanning
of Employee ID, Job Number, Activity, Inventory
Codes, etc. Due to the drop down lists, there are
no codes to memorize and all selections are fully
prompted and confirmed immediately. The user may
enter comments or notes and may also confirm the
use of materials and inventory.
The full screen interface of the PrintStream Shop floor Data Capture System was
chosen primarily because electronic instructions for jobs or last minute change
order information is most successfully conveyed through full screen display.
Foreign language translations could also be programmed for non-English speaking
employees.
On screen prompts for input of certain statistical process control measurements
such as unit counts and spoilage tracking controls can be defined for each activity
or process in the system.
